BURP (Berkhamsted Ukulele Random Players), under the benign guidance of Sue Parsons, held an annual ukulele festival since 2012 and over the ensuing ten years donated a total of over £35,000 to UNICEF. We thank all of our supporters – performers, volunteers, participants and audience alike – for their input.
In 2021, which marked Sue's tenth U4U, we were forced to go virtual and this allowed us to spread our wings with an international bill.
2022 was always destined to see great changes in the format of BURP's support for Unicef and that was indeed the case. The changing pandemic situation meant that we weren't clear exactly what that change would entail. But one thing was for sure: there wouldn't be a big all-day festival at the end of February.
Eventually all the extravagent possibilities coalesced into ... a short series of mass busks and gigs. Our first busk was in Berkhamsted and involved Katie's Jumping Fleas, The Ukerythmics and BURP. We raised just over £3k for Unicef's Ukraine appeal. With further support from Ver Players, we raised well over £7000.
The 2023 figure is currently standing at £2,596, so thank you for that!
So, in 2023, we're doing the same again. There will be mass busks as follows:
